Isla Mujeres near the Yucatan Peninsula

Isla Mujeres is an island on the Mexican Caribbean coast. Translated the name means Island of Women. There are several hotels on Isla Mujeres. But there are also many day-trippers from neighboring Cancun here, as can be seen in the pictures and videos.

InfoThe island is located about 9 km northeast of Puerto Juarez. Alternatively you can also take the catamaran directly from Cancun to the north coast of the island. This tour is more beautiful than the ferry from Puerto Juarez. The trip goes directly to the north and is with 13 km a little longer. The small island lives only by tourists. There are some hotels and beautiful beaches, especially in the north. The island is only 1 km wide, but has a length of 8 km. Due to the length of the island here is even room for a small airfield. Guests wishing to explore the island, can do this in a golf cart. These are the most present means of transportation on the island.

Isla Mujeres was already used by the Maya 550 BC. The island was not permanently settled, but on Isla Mujeres there was a sanctuary dedicated to the Mayan goddess Ixchel.
