Gramvousa northwest of Crete

Gramvousa is a peninsula on the north-western tip of Crete. Along the peninsula there are some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. So Gramvousa is also often compared to some dream beaches of the Caribbean. At least the landscape appears very exotic and not typical of Crete, as can be seen in the pictures and videos.

InfoAbsolutely worth seeing are the two islands Imeri Gramvousa and Balos. The easiest way to get there, is a tour by boat from Kissamos around the northern tip of Gramvousa directly to Imeri Gramvousa. This small island is a former pirate island with a Venetian fortress on the summit 114 meters above sea level. The ascent to the fortress is not easy, but from here you have a fantastic panoramic view along the coast to Gramvousa and to the two neighboring islands Agria Gramvousa and Balos. At this first stop of the tour you should not miss a dip in the turquoise water. Directly on the beach you also can visit a half sunken ship wreck up close. The more beautiful swimming stopover is on the second stop of the tour, on the beautiful beach of the Balos Lagoon. But that’s another story.
